2008 Rates and Fees for Regular Classes:
2 hour class: $35 per 2 hr session. 3 hr class: $45 each. It usually takes 14-20hrs to complete the first project in a Byzantine style technique. First session includes an introduction to history of mosaics and techniques. Students are encouraged to bring their own designs to the first class. Studio can also provide you with mosaic books, studio samples and catalogues to look at for choosing a design for your project. Tools and materials are available for purchase at the studio. *Rates and Fees are subject to change.
Materials Fee
Materials fee for the first beginner's project is $34+tx (up to 1sq ft tiles out of stained glass, plates, pebbles). Smalti project is approx. $90 per sq ft +tx, includes all the materials and tools (yes, it is that expensive, but it is fun to work with! Anybody who attempted to work with it says it's worth it). There are discounts for larger projects. Fees for other projects will vary depending on the choice of the materials and project size. Materials fee includes: glass, the use of studio tools & materials, adhesive, grout, hanging system. Studio does not lend the tools for use at home, but new tools are available for purchase right on the spot.
Project Storage & Sacrifices to Mosaic Gods
Project storage is available for work in progress only. Any work left unattended for over 4 weeks after the last class was taken will be left to the mercy of Mosaic Gods. In other words, if the work is not picked up within 4 weeks after your last class (may it be your very last class, or you are taking a break), we are not responsible for any damages to it. There are absolutely no exceptions to this policy! We will be nice about keeping the work and will give you up to 2 e-mail notices or 1 phone call before we bring it onto a sacrificial altar.
Tools
All magical tools (called "things" among students) such as glass cutters, pliers, tweezers, wheel cutters, are provided for use at the studio. You can also purchase them for use at home. Some materials such as stained glass, smalti, ceramic plates, pebbles, small mirrors, and table tops (custom cut), are available for purchase at the studio for use in the class. Storage is available only for projects in progress. Studio sells: glass cutters, wheel nippers, runner pliers, vitreous glass tiles, dichroic glass, Weldbond® glue, best in the World tweezers, grout, Mosaic Making Kits, etc. And we always try to carry some of the new hot items.
Deposit
A $35 deposit is required in order to sign up for weekly classes. It is in addition to the class fee. It will be refunded towards the last class' cost. You must complete your first project or take at least 7 sessions in order to receive a refund. No deposit refunds or credits are given if the student signs up and fails to show up for classes.
Wait List
A $35 deposit is required in order to be on a wait list for classes. We will try to accommodate you within 6 weeks. If there are still no spots open within 6 weeks, we will gladly refund your deposit (unless you are very enthusiastic about taking a class and are willing to wait a bit longer!)
Bounced Check Policy :
All bounced checks will be subject to a $25 recovery fee. And you shall be banned from paying by check forever!
Attendance Policy
Mosaic Sphere is a privately owned business. To value your time and our's as well, we exercise the following policies: Due to a limited size of groups, once signed up, you must attend your class weekly, or else everyone in a class will think that you have abandoned us. If you can't come to the class, at least a 24 hr notice is required about your absence. "No Show" fee (cost of the session) will be charged for a missed class if no notice was given or if the notice was given too late (except health or family related emergencies). Students can miss 1 class per month without being charged, providing a 24 hr advance notice was given. If more classes are missed, the students can come for a makeup class (providing that someone else is missing their class and we have spots open in other sections), or they will be charged regardless. 2 weeks advance notice is appreciated if you plan to stop attending classes or plan to take a few weeks of break, so we can sign up others who want to attend. We thank you for your understanding! Enjoy the classes!
