"Displaced
Hurricane", 2013.
Materials: Layered stained glass, smalti, stone.
Size: 24"x30"
Price: upon request
A hurricane and
irrigation circles don't mix. This is a futuristic vision of
a hurricane taking over the desert area and bringing in too
much of a good thing all at once- water.
|
Project
Description: "Displaced Hurricane" is part
of series of works that speak of water and its distribution
in the world. At the time of global warming new weather
patterns are emerging resulting in major shifts in the
water supplies. While the ocean coasts are experiencing
an onslaught of forceful hurricanes, the desert areas are
running out of ground water. Irrigation circles sometimes
are the only means for desert economies to feed their populations.

"Landfall",
2012.
Materials: Layered stained glass, smalti, stone.
Size: 32" x 32"
Price: upon request
A hurricane is
pictured making a landfall over the Eastern Coast of US. Although
most of the scenery is obscured by the cloud cover, one can only
imagine the level of destruction a hurricane can cause.

Project
Description: "Landfall" is part of series
of works that speak of water and its distribution in the world.
At the time of global warming new weather patterns are emerging
resulting in major shifts in the water supplies. Life as we know
it can only exist in a presence of liquid water. Without water
Earth would be just another dry lifeless world floating in space.

"Jupiter:
Great Red Spot",
2010.
Materials: Layered stained glass.
Size: 36" x 56"
Price: upon request
Jupiter has always fascinated me as unrealized star- a planetary
body that is too small for a nuclear fusion action. It is a giant
planet that we can never land on. And it is in charge of one
of the greatest hurricanes that we can observe- the Great Red
Spot.
Because of a layered layout, this mosaic required some research
on structure of the GRS. I had to contact a NASA scientist who
was very generous and sent me a couple of papers that she has
written on cloud deck observations of Great Red Spot.

Project
Description: Starscapes series is about the
stars, their personalities and their interaction with the
surroundings. It is about transformation and relative comparison
of the outer and inner worlds of humans and stars. Like
people, stars show their character, their warmth, their
long-lasting influence on their surroundings. In the otherwise
dark Universe, they are the sources of light. Some burn
bright and short, some burn for billions of years. Some
are variable, and some are constant. By exploring their
intricate personalities we better understand the people
that surround us. We are composed of atoms formed by second
and third generation stars. In the infinity of space, one
human being contains the chemical data for most of the
stars that we observe.
Process: Layered
stained glass technique was used to create the "Starscapes" mosaics.
First, a layer of stained glass was glued onto a plywood substrate.
The first layer was grouted as a conventional mosaic. Many
layers of glass were applied on top of the first layer to produce
the visual effects of overlap, transparency, and dimension.
Layered mosaics offer a better medium for exploring infinities
since they are not limited to a finite plane. With a traditional
mosaic, when you place your last tessera, you are finished
with the mosaic. In a layered mosaic there is technically no
limit on how many tesserae can be placed one on top of another.

"When
the Stars Line Up for You",
2009.
Materials: Orzoni smalti, gold, stained glass, glass
rods, and coal.
Size: 24"x42"
Price: $8,000
This project
is a juxtaposition of the confined mosaic surface with limitless
space.
There are
billions of stars in the Universe and close to an infinite
number of views and star alignments are possible. With such
an infinity of views one can choose any alignment one wishes
and attach particular meaning to that view.
The layered
tesserae technique creates multiple flows and directions that
express constant flow of events, and unstoppable progress of
matter.

"Materialize:
2(xyzt)",
2009. Materials: stained glass mosaic.
Size: 16"x40".
Price: $2,500 (sale)
Two parallel
events can't exist at the same space and at the same time,
but what if? This mosaic
represents a scene of two parallel universes becoming aware of each
other. Will they cancel each other out of their existence or is it
possible for them to be integrated and still be independent? |

One of the difficulties
in today's space travel is the lack of efficient fuel. In this
futuristic vision, the spaceship is powered by a Moebius drive, an
eternal engine that can push the ship forward indefinitely. The spaceship
is designed to search for radio signals from other civilizations. |
